The Sims 5 offers multiplayer, but will not be an MMO

In the latest Behind-the-Sims video from developer Maxis, there were also a few small, new bits of information about The Sims 5 aka Project Rene, as it is currently called.

The current update deals on the one hand with the current status of the project and with the features.

What is currently happening in The Sims 5

According to Game Director Grant Rodiek, a “small portion” of this “next-gen” Sims experience is currently being tested. This is the “Apartment Customization”.

According to Rodiek, however, it will still be “years” before the project is completed. You can then play it alone or with friends in multiplayer.

More news about The Sims 5:

“It’s a big deal,” says Rodiek. “We know our players want that intimate, personal experience where they explore stories and ideas in single player. But there are also really cool things to do with others and share and create with your friends.”

At the same time, he emphasizes that Project Rene is “not an MMO” with a “publicly shared space”. Anyone can play for themselves and, if they feel like it, invite others.

“That’s the structure we’re aiming for,” says Rodiek. “We think this is really cool and perfect for The Sims.”
