Tornado in North Texas leaves at least three dead and more than 75 injured

At least three people were killed and more than 75 injured Thursday after a tornado ripped through the city of Perryton, Texas, authorities said.

The tornado struck Perryton, which has a population of about 8,500, around 5:10 p.m., said Trent Hoffeditz, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Amarillo.

Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher said three people were confirmed dead and between 75 and 100 were treated at local hospitals. Among the areas affected by the tornado was a trailer park that received a direct hit, he said.

Ochiltree General Hospital, which is in Perryton, said it had between 50 and 70 patients from the tornado.
