Trump returns to city where attack occurred to honor deceased supporter

MIAMI.- The former president of the United States Donald Trump announced that he will soon return to the city of Butler, in the state of Pennsylvaniawhere he survived an assassination attempt on July 13, at a ceremony in honor of his supporter Corey Comperatore, who died during the incident.

“I’m going back to Butler, Pennsylvania to hold a big, beautiful rally and honor the soul of our beloved firefighter hero,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

As he explained in his message, Trump will extend the ceremony to the other two supporters injured by the shots fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who ended up dying at the hands of security forces.

The former president, who has not given further details about this visit, closed the note by repeating his cry to the crowd a few seconds after being the target of the attack: “Fight, fight, fight.”

Trump not Minnesota

Donald Trump is taking his campaign back to Minnesota, a state that has favored Democrats but which the former president says could be within his reach this year.

Trump will hold a campaign rally Saturday night in St. Cloud, Minnesota, this time with his running mate, JD Vance, and the expectation of facing Vice President Kamala Harris instead of President Joe Biden. But before that, he plans to give a conference on bitcoin in Nashville, Tennessee.

Trump’s campaign sees Ohio senator Vance as particularly helpful in appealing to this group of potential voters, given his roots in a Midwestern city that is part of the country’s industrial belt.

The appeal to Midwesterners and union workers is something that has also helped Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz make the shortlist of about a dozen Democrats who could become Harris’ running mate.

Earlier this month, Republican congressional candidate Tayler Rahm dropped out of the primary race and began working as an adviser to Trump’s campaign in the state.

“The Biden/Harris administration has been so disastrous, and Democrats are so disorganized, that President Trump is not only ahead in every traditional battleground state, but long-standing Democratic states like Minnesota, Virginia and New Jersey are now in play,” Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

Lexi Byler, communications director for Harris’ Minnesota campaign, said Trump and Vance are “very disconnected from the values of Minnesotans, and the state will not be won by a Republican presidential candidate this year.”

Trump’s appearance in St. Cloud will be at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, a 5,159-seat hockey arena. Since surviving the July 13 assassination attempt at an on-air rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump has only held events indoors.

But on Saturday he said on his social network that he would schedule outdoor stops and that the “SECRET SERVICE HAS AGREED TO SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE ITS OPERATION. THEY ARE VERY CAPABLE OF DOING SO. NO ONE WILL EVER BE ABLE TO STOP OR PREVENT FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION OR ASSEMBLY!!!”

“Ensuring the safety of our protected individuals is our highest priority,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement Saturday. “In the interest of maintaining operational integrity, we cannot comment on the specifics of our protective means or methods.”
