'Very special, very exciting to play in NY': Fonseca

From the Summer Stage esplanade in Central Park, we spoke with Colombian singer-songwriter Fonseca while he was doing a sound check for his concert in the Big Apple.

“It’s very special, very exciting to play in New York, because it’s always special and very important, but also to play in Central Park. It’s the middle of summer on this Summer Stage, the second time I’ve had the opportunity to play here and feel the energy that there is here,” said Fonseca.

Each year, City Park Foundation SummerStage transforms Central Park into an epicenter of diverse and accessible music where internationally renowned artists like Fonseca converge.

“We all know how iconic this place is, but also the musical history that the center and the park have, as well as the historic concerts that have been held here and feeling that my music is part of that history, is really very exciting.”

This summer, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) and the Latin Grammys, the guest of honor was the singer.

“We are happy, the community is happy, so it is a great pleasure and a great pleasure that we have artists like him, who want to do free concerts for the community, so that the community can enjoy and have a good time with us,” said Priscila Santana, SummerStage’s director of programming operations.

According to Santana, the event will bring an unforgettable summer.

“It’s a proclamation for all tastes. If you like pop rock, pop, R&B, reggae, anything, you’re going to find something here at SummerStage for you, so ‘come join us’.”

Fonseca, known for his fusions of pop and vallenato, this time shared new music in which everyone from Juan Luis Guerra to Grupo Niche participated.

“Juan Luis Guerra has always been one of the great influences in my life and I always dreamed of singing with Juan Luis for many years, when people asked me: ‘Who do you dream of singing with?’ It was always Juan Luis Guerra, Juan Luis Guerra. And well, it happened in Tropicalia and in this song by If you love me“.

And for those Fonseca fans, no, he didn’t send them flowers, but he did send them a serenade…
