Zelensky calls on NATO to lift all restrictions on attacks on Russian territory

WASHINGTON — From the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenski, He asked the leaders of the I’LL TAKE to remove “all restrictions” on attacks from kyiv on territory Russian with Western weapons, on the sidelines of an Atlantic Alliance summit in Washington.

“If we want to win, if we want to prevail, if we want to save our country and defend it, we must remove all restrictions,” Zelensky said at a press conference.

Several NATO countries impose restrictions on the use of weapons they supply to Ukraine.

Some, such as Italy, prohibit their use on Russian territory, others, such as the United States, restrict it to attacks against legitimate military targets within a limited area of Russian soil.

Ukraine has long demanded the ability to use Western-supplied long-range missiles to attack Russian targets without restrictions.

Moscow regularly launches attacks from bases sometimes located far away from Ukraine, which it tries to reach with drones.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reiterated that Ukraine has the right to defend itself, including by attacking military targets on Russian soil, especially when the front line is very close to the border, as is the case in the Kharkiv region, where Moscow launched an offensive in May.

The Ukrainian president also said he hopes his country will one day join NATO, after the Atlantic Alliance acknowledged in a statement that its path to membership is “irreversible.”

“We are doing and will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the day comes when Ukraine is invited and becomes a member of NATO, and I am confident that we will achieve this,” he said.
