Second season of La Casa del Drgan premieres after delay due to strikes

PARS.- After two years of waiting, the serie The House of the Dragon is ready for a second season starting June 17 that promises even more blood, fire and struggle for power, the ingredients that brought its predecessor to success Game of Thrones.

The large one writers and actors strike in the United States they delayed for months the completion of this season set in the mythical land of Westeros, almost two centuries before Game of Thrones.

The second season premieres on June 16 in the United States and Latin America, on the 17th throughout Europe through the Max platform, a product of the merger HBO Max y Discovery+.

Its first episode picks up the plot where fans said goodbye to the protagonists: the daughter of the recently deceased King Viserys, Rhaenyra (Emma d’Arcy), disputes the throne with her half-brother Aegon (Ty Tennant), who has just been invested. .

Rhaenyra sends one of her sons on the back of a dragon to make alliances, but along the way young Lucerys is destroyed after an epic battle in the heavens by his cousin Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), the disturbing white-haired one-eyed prince.

Ms grande, ms solemne

From there, the intrigue of the eight episodes of this new season is kept under seven keys.

But from the advances spread on social networks for weeks it is deduced that women will have an essential role in this season, as well as the dragons, which in Game of Thrones only appeared decisively in the last seasons.

“Everything gets bigger, there are more settings” for intrigue and battles, the creator of the world of Westeros, writer George RR Martin, explained in a promotional video.

“It is a deeply immersive world. And although it can be exciting and spectacular at times, I believe and hope that it is the connections of the characters that motivate the public to return,” explained the main adapter and executive producer of The House in an interview with AFP. of the Dragon, Ryan Condal.

The first season, throughout 2022, was a public success. Its first episode attracted almost 10 million viewers in the United States, the largest audience for an original series in HBO history.

Condal recognizes that House of the Dragon is more shadowy and “solemn” than Game of Thrones, the greatest success in the history of television series, full of colorful characters, with black humor and ribald situations that provoked delight (and sometimes the scandal) of the public.

“This series tends to focus on the main family (the Targaryens). Although we are going to introduce a number of new characters from less privileged layers of society,” he explains.

“Much of the humor of the original series came from those cultural clashes of people from different social strata,” he adds.

Daemon, the most unpredictable

The most unpredictable character is perhaps Daemon (Matt Smith), Rhaenyra’s uncle and husband, faithful to his queen but also obsessed with the throne, says Condal.

“I think Daemon is still the most volatile character, but hopefully we have a lot of others in the season,” he explains.

One of the enigmatic phrases of the first season is uttered by King Viserys to his daughter Rhaenyra: “the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion.”

“We will have to wait,” says Condal with a smile. “In a way, you can see The House of the Dragon as a metaphor for nuclear power. You have two superpowers, the House of Black and the House of Green. They both have dragons. But those dragons are living beasts. And the fact that “A human being riding on top of a dragon does not mean that he controls it,” he adds.

The third season of The House of the Dragon is already being written, reveals its executive producer.
