Guanajuato.— At least 15 primary school students were intoxicated by ingesting “Clonazepam” drops in Guanajuato, something that in recent times has affected other entities due to a “viral challenge” from the Tik Tok platform.

After 10:00 a.m., the entity’s emergency system received the report of the students affected by the ingestion of the medication at the “María de Jesús” elementary school.

Red Cross personnel, as well as Civil Protection and State Firefighters, reported that the students presented dizziness, vomiting and fainting.

Despite the fact that police reports reported the poisoning, the state Education Secretariat assured that none of the children’s health was affected, and that only as a preventive measure did the staff of the institution and the Ministry of Health go to the primary school to review them.

“While the origin of the medicine is determined, the SEG calls on parents to guide their children about the serious health risks from the consumption of these controlled substances,” it was officially reported.

Unofficial versions suggest that the tranquilizer reached the children because a colleague, under clinical treatment, gave it to them.

The “Clonazepam challenge”, known on TikTok as “Whoever falls asleep last wins”, consists of taking the tranquilizer and waiting until they start to fall asleep.

As its name implies, the one who resists the longest is the winner.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that students from the Cuauhtémoc City Hall, in Mexico City, as well as from San Nicolás de los Garza, in Nuevo León, also became intoxicated from participating in this “challenge.”

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) urged citizens to denounce points where controlled drugs such as Clonazepam are sold without a prescription.

The agency asked fathers, mothers, guardians, caregivers and teachers to provide guidance on the serious risks to health due to the use and consumption of controlled substances.

Cofepris also invited children and adolescents to avoid spreading and participate in challenges that put their lives at risk.
