A 4-year-old girl dies after being beaten by her mother in Honduras

Tegucigalpa.- A 4-year-old girl died at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, where she was admitted after her mother beat her up on Tuesday, and her body was handed over this Thursday in Forensic Medicine, from the Public Ministry.

On Tuesday, the Honduran, Paola Michell Banegas Ramírez, hit her daughter, Suyapita, “strongly”, causing various traumas to her head and other parts of her body, denounced one of the minor’s aunts, Sheila Méndez.

The girl was admitted to the Maternal and Child Hospital on Tuesday night and after less than 24 hours in intensive care, the minor did not improve and died in the last few hours.

The girl had “considerable damage to the brain” due to the blows she received, according to the Maternal and Child doctors who were treating her.

Suyapita’s body was delivered this morning and later transferred to the municipality of San Lorenzo, department of Valle, on the border with El Salvador, where he lived with his mother and a 7-year-old brother.

The woman was arrested this Wednesday after relatives of the girl filed a complaint against her and a court ordered her judicial detention.

The Public Ministry filed a request against the 27-year-old woman for the crime of parricide, a crime that is punishable by up to 25 years in prison in Honduras, according to the Penal Code.

Suyapita’s case is the second death of a minor that the Honduran Public Ministry is investigating in recent days.

Last week, a 12-month-old girl died under the guardianship of the State of Honduras due to “generalized septicemia secondary to her severe malnutrition,” the head of the Directorate for Children, Adolescents and Family (Dinaf), Lizeth told EFE on Tuesday. neck.

The girl was taken into Dinaf custody last May because she suffered from “acute malnutrition” and later transferred by this institution to a care center, where she was recovering, but due to her weak immune system she acquired a bacterium that affected his lungs, Coello explained.

The minor had allegedly been raped in a child care residence, a point that was ruled out in the autopsy, according to the authorities.

Around 3,000 minors are in state custody, the majority between 12 and 18 years old, according to official figures.
