The MechWarrior franchise is set to return with a new single-player game. It is via an interview with Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, that we learn the news.
A new MechWarrior is in development
During the latest episode of the NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast, he reveals that the studio is working on a new standalone episode of MechWarrior. Few details were given, but we do know that it will be a solo / cooperative game, and not a PvP game.
We’re still working on MechWarrior, which kind of surprised me, because we’ve been able to work on it for so long, which is great. Everyone knows MechWarrior 5 DLC 4 is coming out, and there’s another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha.
This is not MechWarrior Online 2, this is not the successor to MechWarrior Online, this is not an online multiplayer game.
Instead, think of something in the same genre as MechWarrior 5, but as a standalone game, a standalone product.
An announcement this year?
If he confirms that a new game is in development, he nevertheless specifies that he cannot say more and that the announcement will take place later; probably towards the end of the year.
The game will be announced later – I don’t know, if I had to guess it might be…, who knows, somewhere in 2023. Maybe even as late as fall, September or other.
