Redacción.- Two soldiers died, one by suicide and another by an accidental shot, and another was injured this morning in the city of Florencia, in the Colombian department of Caquetá (south), the Army reported this Sunday.
“According to preliminary information, it would be a possible suicide of one of them,” reported the command of the Sixth Division of the National Army, of the events that occurred this morning.
After the suicide, upon hearing the shot, another soldier fired, “apparently accidentally”, and wounded two other soldiers, who have been evacuated to a clinic in Florence.
One of the injured, Daniel Pérez, died due to the seriousness of his injuries and the other, Víctor Alfonso Villa, has undergone surgery and is in intensive care, according to the statement.
Officials from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor’s Office inspected the military base and the Army is also verifying the processes and procedures to investigate the facts.
In addition, the Army denied that the soldiers died in a “harassment” of the troops, as some media initially reported.
“This Command regrets the death of our soldiers, and sends a message of condolences to family and friends,” the statement added.
