Sports Writing, Apr 24 (EFE).- The experienced quarterback Aaron Rodgers, passed this Monday from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets in exchange for multiple selections from the 2023 and 2024 editions of the NFL Draft.
“There are still things to do. The agreement is not finalized, but we hope it will be done in the next few days. We hope to have this done before the Draft,” Packers general manager Brian Gutenkunst said.
In addition to Rodgers, the Jets will receive a first-round pick (15th pick) and a fifth-round pick (170th pick) from Green Bay in this year’s Draft.
The Packers will get from New York a first-round pick (turn 13), a second-round pick (number 42) and a sixth-round pick (207) in the Draft that starts this Thursday and a second pick in the 2024 Draft that could become one of first round if Rodgers calls 65 percent of the snaps in the 2024 season.
Aaron Rodgers, 39, was with the Packers for 18 seasons, 15 of them as a starter, during which he led them to win Super Bowl XLV, a game in which he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The ‘quarterback’ born in Chico, California, expressed his desire to leave Green Bay, the team he was selected in the first round of the 2005 Draft, before the start of the 2022 campaign; something that did not materialize.
At the end of that season, the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player of the season said he was undecided between retiring or continuing his career with another team.
To decide, last March, he isolated himself in a dark retreat in a cabin located in a nature reserve for four days. Upon completion of his retirement, Rodgers announced that his intention was to play for the New York Jets.
“I made it clear that I want to continue playing in the NFL and my intention is to do it for the New York Jets; there is no malice or any bitterness with the Packers, ”explained the quarterback last March.
During his tenure at Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers had 59,055 passing yards, 475 touchdown passes and 105 interceptions.
