Microsoft released its patch day updates in April. This brings Windows 11 and Windows 10 up to date in terms of security and gives them a whole range of new functions. This time the whole update process is different.

For Windows 10 (21H1, 21H2 and 22H2) and Windows 11 (21H2 and 22H2) there are, as usual, improvements in security and stability to be reported for patch day in April. For Windows 11 users, the patch day update in April with KB5025239 (22H2) and KB5025224 (21H2) will go to the new build numbers 22621.1555 and 22000.1817 respectively. However, as of this month, these will be distributed much more effectively with the new Unified Update Platform (UUP), Microsoft speaks of 30 percent smaller packages.

Windows 11 versions for patch day April 2023

Microsoft calls the integration of the new Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) the most important new feature; blog post presented in more detail. Also part of the package: a fix for compatibility problems caused by unsupported use of the registry and the automatic logon of certain devices – a problem that has existed since January 10, 2023.

Windows 10 versions for patch day March 2023

In April, the update rhythm for Windows 10 will take a new turn. Optional, non-security-related preview updates are always published on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This puts them right between the monthly security update and the feature release in the next mandatory cumulative update.

The new updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 can now be downloaded via the Windows update function in the settings of the respective operating systems.
