Fear the Walking Dead, a spinoff of the TV series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics, is preparing to close its narrative arc with the eighth season, arriving on May 14th. This was announced by the AMC network, also revealing the launch windows of new projects set in the universe of The Walking Dead. These are the statements of Dan McDermott, president of AMC Studios and AMC Networks.

Fear the Walking Dead will close with the eighth season

It’s been an exciting year for The Walking Dead universe as we conclude the journey that began with Fear the Walking Dead, one of the most successful shows in cable television history. And now we are ready to bring forward the next iteration of the franchise – two new and anticipated series with the beloved characters of Maggie [Cohan]Negan [Morgan] and Daryl. We will also begin production on the next chapter of Rick and Michonne’s unforgettable love story, which we can’t wait to share next year. The next phase of our beloved Walking Dead franchise promises to engage and excite the most loyal viewers. Fans new and old will love seeing zombies walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, under the Eiffel Tower, inside the Louvre, and in dozens of other exotic and iconic locations across the country and the world.

The last season of Fear the Walking Dead will be divided into two parts: Six episodes will air between May and June, with the last six airing throughout the year. Scott M. Gimple will return as executive producer and Ian Goldberg, Robert Kirman and Greg Nicotero as writers. Filming for the last four seasons of Fear the Walking Dead took place in Austin, Texas, while Georgia, specifically Savannah, was chosen as the new theater for the series for the eighth season.

The Walking Dead ended with the eleventh season, but the universe will expand with new spinoffs: Dead City, a project with Negan and Maggie (arriving in June), Daryl Dixon, a series centered on the character played by Norman Reedus (the release date not revealed yet) and a show about Rick and Michonne (due out in 2024).
