The ceremony, which took place at the Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon, also applauded, standing up, Sérgio Godinho, distinguished with the Career Prize “for his artistic path of enviable longevity, which for almost 50 years has been intertwined with the history of the country” , as indicated by the organization.
The musician from “A Noite Passada” also attended, flanked by the Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, who handed him the prize, a tribute, provided by the band Os Assessores with Jorge Palma, Manuela Azevedo and Diogo Piçarra, who played some of Godinho’s best-known themes.
In his acceptance speech, Godinho underlined the “strength and diversity” of current Portuguese music: “Not only can we not complain about the lack of music, but music runs through us”.
Soon after, Filomena Cautela, one of the ceremony’s hosts, said she spoke for many in the room when she addressed Pedro Adão e Silva to appeal for the share of Portuguese music on the radio to return to the 30% it had been at the beginning of the year past, prompting applause from the audience.
Hours earlier, the prize for best group was awarded to the duo Calema, brothers António Mendes Ferreira and Fradique Mendes Ferreira.
“Tudo Recomeça”, by Aldina Duarte, was considered the best fado album and, in jazz, “Chasing Contradictions”, by Ricardo Toscano Trio, won the award for best album.
At classical music, the title went to “Lamentationes Hebdomadæ Sanctæ”, by the Ensemble Bonne Corde.
O Lusofonia prize was won for the theme “Dançarina”by Pedro Sampaio with MC Pedrinho, while the best music video was “Caro”, by X-Tense with Slow-J, directed by Gonçalo Carvoeiras and X-Tense.
