The month of January is always conducive to the reviews of the previous year of the most popular films and series. Nielsen has just looked into the subject and has just published its list of the most streamed series in 2022.
A surprising podium
According to the analysis institute, it is Stranger Things on Netflix which was the most viewed series with an astronomical total of 52 billion minutes streamed. The return of Eleven and her band hit the mark on the streaming platform, which recorded excellent audience scores. The public remained in a huge suspense at the end of this season 4, and it is an understatement to say that the next season, which will be the last, is eagerly awaited.
In second position on this list, we find NCIS (38.1 billion minutes watched). Note that the production has announced that the series will end next spring at the end of its fourteenth season. The podium of 2022 is completed by the children’s animated series Cocomelon with 37.8 billion minutes watched.
At last, ozark recovers a very honorable fourth place. We generally enjoyed this fiction which ended last year on Netflix. With its atypical characters, its tension and its suspense, it has found its audience on the streaming service. The showrunners also offered a conclusion that lives up to expectations.
House of the Dragon is the most pirated
Interestingly, these results differ from the survey of users of the r/television subreddit. Internet users have indeed recently voted to give their top 10 best series of 2022. Here it is: 1) Severance 2 ) House of the Dragon 3 ) Andor 4) The Bear 5) Peacemaker 6) The Sandman 7) Wednesday 8) Our Flag means Death 9) The Lords of the Rings: The Rings of Power 10) Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
In the same vein, TorrentFreak offered its ranking of the 10 most pirated series of the year. Our colleagues rely for this on the BitTorrent traffic which only partly reflects the piracy: 1) House of the Dragon, 2) The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, 3) The Boys, 4) Moon Knight, 5) Halo, 6) Obi-Wan Kenobi, 7) The Book of Boba Fett, 8) Stranger Things, 9) She-Hulk, 10) Andor.
