Google recently announced all sorts of new features for Android Auto. It should also not be forgotten that car manufacturers have recently started a new HD card allowed to access. The Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 are the first to do this. The improved map should be able to display precise road details such as lane markings, signs and roadblocks. This should help vehicle manufacturers to better support technologies for assisted and autonomous driving. The additional information is superimposed on the data from Google Maps. As a driver, the HD map is probably not directly visible, rather the car’s assistance systems access it and use the information for their functions. Currently, Google is mainly still working on finding out where the HD map can be most useful in the future.
