Apple released version 16.3 of the HomePod software on Tuesday evening. Among other things, the update activates the temperature and humidity sensors in the HomePod mini. Apple is also unlocking new features for Siri.

Some users had already missed the announced update on Monday evening when iOS 16.3, macOS 13.2 and watchOS 9.3 were released. The HomePod update can be recognized by the build number 2A1467. Along with the HomePod firmware, tvOS 16.3 was also released for the Apple TV. Nothing is known about new features here, so the update will probably only contain bug fixes and improvements. The update can be started on the device via Settings, System, Software updates and the “Update software” menu item.

Once activated, the temperature and humidity are displayed in the Home app on the iPhone. The HomePod mini and the soon to be available 2nd generation HomePod come with the necessary hardware – however, it was not initially activated when the mini was introduced. In addition to the new measurement data, Apple has also added the ability to set up home automation by voice. A confirmation tone from Siri is intended to indicate that the command has been understood for Smart Home actions, even if the device in question does not initially react visibly or is in another room. Other optimizations relate to playing podcasts on the large HomePods and the Where Is app.

According to Apple, the HomePod mini will also receive the sound recognition feature that was newly introduced in the HomePod 2 in the spring. It is currently not included. Updating the HomePod software is possible via the Home app on the iPhone.
