Argentine government condemns harassment of its diplomatic headquarters in Caracas

CARACAS.- The Argentine government on Tuesday condemned the “harassment” of its embassy in Venezuela by holding the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro responsible for the power cut at the diplomatic headquarters.

Argentina warned against “any deliberate action that endangers the safety of Argentine diplomatic personnel and the (six) Venezuelan citizens under protection” who remain in the embassy, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On Monday night, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machadowarned about the presence of “armed hooded individuals” and agents of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) in front of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas. This complaint comes amid growing tensions between the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolas Maduroand the president of Argentina, Javier Miley.

Machado, in a press conference, made an urgent appeal to the media to investigate the situation at the embassy: “We are being told that at this time (that) at the doors of the Argentine Embassy, there are armed hooded men and apparently PNB officers. I would like to ask the journalists that when this press conference is over, please come over there.”

The opposition leader also urged residents of the area to “provide support to those who are there to ensure their safety” and stressed the importance of protecting the “motorcyclists” who patrol the area. Machado stressed that “it would be an absolute scandal if the protection agreement were violated at this time.”

This incident comes after recent accusations by the Venezuelan regime against Argentine authorities, who, according to the Maduro administration, have threatened to take action against the diplomatic legation in Buenos Aires. This accusation arose after Patricia Bullrich, Argentine Minister of Security, mentioned that she was at the diplomatic headquarters awaiting the election results.

Last night, Milei rejected any attempt at electoral manipulation in Venezuela, demanding Maduro’s departure and stating that the opposition’s victory is clear. “Dictator Maduro, out! Venezuelans chose to end the communist dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. The data announce a crushing victory for the opposition and the world is waiting for him to recognize the defeat after years of socialism, misery, decadence and death,” said Milei.

Venezuela’s response was not long in coming. Foreign Minister Yvan Gil called Milei a “sickening Nazi” and warned that the Argentine people would soon seek justice for his actions. “Our victory is a sign that the fascism you promote will be defeated,” said Gil.

For his part, Maduro harshly disqualified Milei, calling him a “cowardly bug” and a “fascist.” “This people has said no to wild capitalism and Milei’s fascism. We are giving an example to the world,” declared the Venezuelan president.

Milei, in this regard, responded that Maduro’s attacks are “flattery” and reaffirmed her position against the Venezuelan regime and assured that her country will not recognize the fraud, calling on the international community to unite in the restoration of the rule of law in Venezuela. “We remind the Venezuelan people that the doors of our homeland are open to every man who chooses to live in freedom,” concluded Milei.
