The handheld console market continues to evolve and Asus has decided to join the race to offer an alternative to Valve’s popular Steam Deck. Next May 11, the company will officially present its new bet, the ROG Ally.

According to a report from MeristationROG Ally is designed to appeal to enthusiasts in the world of portable gaming and features a 7-inch touchscreen with Full HD support and a 120Hz refresh rate with AMD Adaptive Sync to avoid annoying screen tearing.

In addition, the screen can reach a maximum brightness of 500 nits, which makes it ideal for gaming in well-lit outdoors. The console is also lightweight and ergonomic, weighing just 608 grams.

Elite performance at a competitive price

When it comes to performance, the ROG Ally has a Ryzen Z1 processor with AMD RDNA 3 graphicswhich comes in two variants: one with six cores and twelve threads, and one with eight cores and 16 threadsknown as the Ryzen Z1 Extreme model, which can reach up to 8.6 teraflops.

The portable console comes with Windows 11 pre-installed, ensuring compatibility with all game catalogues. Microsoft is also supporting the project, and will offer three free months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to ROG Ally buyers.

To keep the laptop cool and in good condition, Asus has incorporated a cooling system called “Zero Gravity”, which has two fans and high friction heat pipes.

ROG Ally will also include a special Armory-Crate hub interface, which will unify all installed games and allow the user to quickly and easily adjust the laptop’s settings.

The ROG Ally’s price and release date have yet to be officially revealed, though Asus is expected to announce them at its launch event on May 11. According to leaks from The Verge, the top model with Z1 Extreme chip will cost $699.99 in the United States.
