After Frank Mauer saved the polar bears with his goal to make it 4:3 in extra time against the Augsburg Panthers, emotions immediately ran high on both sides. In view of the certainty that the closest competitor in the fight for relegation has now been distanced by ten points and that they were able to turn a 1:3 deficit, the Berliners celebrated as enthusiastically as after winning a play-off series.
On the other hand, the guests could hardly contain their anger. The following statement was found on the club’s official Twitter account: “This, friends, is a shitty scandal! But the four pandas bring the polar bears back in the 3rd period and give us a brutal blow in the neck. But that also suits our season… It hurts incredibly.”
What was meant were the two controversial situations in which the referees sent Augsburg players to the penalty box and the Eisbären, outnumbered, first made it 2:3 and later equalized to make it 3:3, in both cases Kevin Clark was the scorer.
