Libro de Carlos.

An author in Queens is achieving his dreams by sharing his childhood stories in a new book.

Carlos Matias’ new book is called “Emergency Quarter” and is inspired by a story that Carlos sent to the New York Times’ Metropolitan newspaper column.

It tells the story of a Hispanic boy named Ernesto who passes by a plaza in Corona where he sees barbershops, street vendors, and resists the temptation to spend some coins that his mother had given him for an emergency.

Matias, who is of Dominican origin, hopes this book will help young readers feel represented.
