The focus of reporting on FC Bayern has shifted noticeably over the past few days: while goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (36) initially dominated the headlines with his public statement, he is now after mixed results and personal misconduct (“softened pack”) now especially coach Julian Nagelsmann in the crossfire of criticism.
A development that, of course, his superiors also register – and do not want to approve. “All discussions are unnecessary. I wish that our coach would be allowed to work in peace.”, quoted the ‘Sport Bild’ sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. Nagelsmann, contractually bound until 2026, is finally “a long-term project of FC Bayern”.
Kahn’s warning
Bavaria’s CEO Oliver Kahn is more reserved about the current situation. The fluctuations in performance – 1-0 away against Paris St. Germain, then a 2-3 against Borussia Mönchengladbach – can be seen “classify very well”. You make personnel decisions anyway “not dependent on individual games”.
But Kahn also sends a clear warning to the team: “We clearly dropped too many points in the Bundesliga, we can’t let that happen to us. We’re only top of the table because of goal difference. Now the players have to show that they are Bayern Munich.” If not, it will inevitably fall back on coach Nagelsmann.
