Biden meets behind closed doors with Democratic governors to seek support

WASHINGTON – The governors Democrats “will support” President Joe Biden, who fights to save his application to the White Housetwo of them, Wes Moore (Maryland) and Tim Walz (Minnesota), said on Wednesday after a meeting with the president.

Biden called Democratic governors together on Wednesday in an attempt to rally behind him. He told them he was “fit” to serve, Tim Walz also said, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Biden was “in the race to win.”

“We are going to support him,” two of them, Wes Moore (Maryland) and Tim Walz (Minnesota), assured the press after the meeting, who affirmed that the president is “fit” to carry out his duties.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, considered a rising star in the party, wrote on X after the meeting: “Joe Biden is our candidate. He is there to win and I support him.”

Biden’s disastrous performance in last week’s debate has reverberated across the Democratic Party, forcing lawmakers to confront a crisis that could upend the presidential election for Democrats seeking to remain in the White House.

The showdown with Trump was meant to be an opportunity for Biden to dispel doubts about his advanced age and fitness for office, and to publicly “portray” his rival as an “existential threat” to American democracy, according to the argument used by the Democrats’ campaign.

But his speech was halting. He stumbled several times and seemed to lose his train of thought. As a result, some Democrats are considering behind the scenes whether he should remain the party’s nominee, which has until August to decide.

For 90 minutes, Biden struggled to counter Trump’s bombastic style, which was forceful and forceful.

On screen, Biden was seen staring, mouth agape, as Trump, 78, spoke.

But the Democratic president is reluctant to abandon the race, despite his obvious deterioration. He has indicated that he has no intention of withdrawing from the race against Donald Trump.

Eyes on Biden

“Nobody is kicking me out, I’m not going away. I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win,” the veteran Democrat said, according to the specialist media Politico.

“He knows that if he has two more acts like that, things will be very different,” a person close to him was quoted as saying by the New York Times on Wednesday.

CNN also published the testimony of someone close to the 81-year-old Democrat who claims that Biden is “lucid” and knows that the next few days will be decisive in continuing in the race for the presidential elections in November.

Biden will campaign in the coming days in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, two “swing states” in the north of the country, meaning that the vote varies depending on the candidate and other factors and not so much on the party, which makes them essential to winning an election.

Nearly a week after the debate, Biden has been unable to erase the strong impression left by those 90 minutes in which he stumbled while speaking, stared into space at times and even lost track of what he was saying.
