The indictment describes how Trump tried to reverse the election result by spreading false allegations that voter fraud had occurred and using all kinds of ploys, culminating in the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol by from a mob of his followers.

The attack took place when a joint session of the two chambers was held at the headquarters of Congress to ratify Biden’s victory in the elections.

The same Tuesday, the White House avoided commenting on the accusation and referred to the Department of Justice that “it conducts its criminal investigations independently.”
