The name Gonzo makes itself felt again thanks to the project that will give life to Giottoa new supercar dedicated to the founder of the company, Giotto Bizzarrini, who after working for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari founded his company in 1964; the new Giotto was designed by Giugiaro and will be pushed by a Mid-engine V12 naturally aspirateda tribute to the Lamborghini V12 which was also developed by Bizzarrini at the time.
The bodywork of the Bizzarrini Giotto will be made of composite materials capable of complying with current safety standards, and of other panels in carbon fiber so as to contain the weight and offer greater performance; as anticipated, the design was entrusted to Giorgetto Giugiaro who took inspiration from the Bizzarrini 5300 GT to design the new Giotto – this can be seen from the triangular B-pillar and the rear window, with a refined line.
“Being able to design a completely new car on behalf of Bizzarrini is a great privilege. Our names are united by almost 60 years of history and a series of designs that have become iconic. With Giotto we want to honor the past but looking to the future.” Giugiaro said.
Chris Porrittat the head of the engineering division of Bizzarriniwill be in charge of the development of the entire powertrain which will be equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Interviewed to talk about the Giotto, Porritt described it as a car for true enthusiasts.
“Finally we are able to recreate Giotto’s vision in an authentic way, we are not looking for lap times or crazy accelerations, we are developing a car that can appeal to the most experienced drivers looking for purity, authenticity and uniqueness. It’s a question of emotions and vocality, of mechanics and tactile feeling. But at the same time it will also be a practical and luxurious car, capable of conveying the personality and emotions of an Italian brand.”
The first tests on the Bizzarrini Giotto will begin in 2024which means that the first examples could be ready no earlier than 2025.
