Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor has selected the PATEO Digital Cockpit system powered by BlackBerry IVY for its next-generation Lantu VOYAH H97 electric vehicle. Dongfeng’s decision follows the successful completion of a proof-of-concept project that marks the first design approval for the BlackBerry IVY, a scalable cloud-connected software platform co-developed with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Under the agreement, Dongfeng will be able to deploy new applications designed to enhance the in-car experience of VOYAH H97 drivers and passengers. The model, which will enter mass production next year, will also feature EVE-Ai, Electra Vehicles’ BlackBerry IVY-based AI battery management solution. This is designed to provide real-time, personalized recommendations for EV battery management to improve range and lifespan.

Headquartered in Shanghai, PATEO is a major player in the connected car field in Asia, with a large partner network in entertainment, vehicle health monitoring, and secure payment. It is believed that BlackBerry IVY will be further deployed to Chinese automakers. “With IVY’s first design win, PATEO is proud to further strengthen our already strong partnership with BlackBerry, whose expertise in the global automotive software industry is second to none,” said PATEO founder and chairman.

“We have invested heavily in research and development in many areas such as mainframe, operating system, application, cloud, artificial intelligence and map technology to further strengthen our ability to meet the huge demand of Chinese automakers to promote the development of software-defined vehicles and continue to Deliver engaging new features and functionality to consumers.

“With the help of BlackBerry, we are better positioned than ever to realize this vision and expect this to be the first of many design wins as we build deeper relationships with automakers in China and around the world. One.” BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO John Chen added: “With the BlackBerry IVY, Dongfeng now has a powerful platform…which will help by supporting the development and delivery process of new in-vehicle solutions and services to create additional revenue streams and ensure their customers continue to benefit from data-driven applications and use cases.”

The deal with Dongfeng was announced at CES, where BlackBerry also confirmed that the IVY is now pre-integrated on Bosch’s commercial digital cockpit platform via the AWS cloud. These implementations were demonstrated at BlackBerry and Amazon’s CES booths, marking the first public demonstration of IVY in a vehicle.
