Bottrop-Kirchhellen.
Families in particular get their money’s worth at the spring festival of the Forest Education Center on May 7th. That’s on the agenda.

The forest education center in Bottrop-Grafenwald is worth a visit. Not only when there are cute offspring in the animal enclosures, such as the goats. But also, for example, when the team of the German Forest Protection Association invites you to the traditional spring festival. This will take place on Sunday, May 7th, at the Ruhehorst.

The Forest Education Center is located on the border between Alt-Bottrop and Kirchhellen, so it is very fitting that actors from both parts of the city contribute to the programme. Club chairman Peter Pawliczek reveals the details:

Spring festival in the WPZ begins with a forest service

It starts at 10 a.m. with a forest service led by Father Francis da Cunha from the youth monastery in Kirchhellen. The hunting horn players from Hegering Alt-Bottrop play with Peter Jeck as the musical beat generator. “The guests are scheduled to be welcomed at 11 a.m.,” Peter Pawliczek continues, “and then the duo BEGE will play”. That consists of Ansgar Behler and Thomas Geilich.

At 12 noon, the forest youth introduce themselves, followed by performances by the flute group from the Gregor School (directed by Hermann Kuhnke), the children from the Awo day-care center “Hand in Hand” (with the music school Anja Wickers) and the OGS children from Fichte- and Gregory School. At 1 p.m. they present musical songs, again rehearsed with Hermann Kuhnke.

After the municipal children’s and youth choir, conducted by Mechthild Gathmann, it’s the turn of the adults again: the Bottpourrie pop choir and finally, from 3 p.m., the shanty choir “Leinen los” with Gaby Günther on the accordion should invite you to bang along. “At the end, the Steigerlied will be sung,” announces Pawliczek.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there is also a lot going on around the stage area. The beekeepers’ association brings visitors closer to the bee. The WPZ team works with children to create a home for wild bees. There is bread on a stick, a make-up stand and two mobiles with an educational offer: “Nature on Tour” is a project for which the Bottrop hunters and farmers are jointly responsible. And the environmental bus Lumbricus is run by the Nature and Environmental Protection Academy NRW to the WPZ. “For the first time in ten years, the Lumbricus bus is rarely available,” says Peter Pawliczek happily.

Food and drinks will be provided. If you would like to donate something for the cake buffet, you can simply bring a cake or a tart with you on the day of the Spring Festival. “The whole festival serves to support the work of the WPZ.”

The chairman asks guests arriving by car to use the parking lot at the Forsthaus Specht and to walk from there to Ruhehorst 14.
