The lower Rathausstraße is to be redesigned. The road is to be redesigned, among other things, by a row of five trees.

The city of Bregenz has been busy developing the Leutbühel district for years. Römerstrasse and Kirchstrasse were redesigned in 2018/19, and Leutbühel itself, Maurachgasse, Apothekergässle and Deuringstrasse in 2021/22. The last construction phase from September 2022 until probably June 2023 affects Rathausstrasse, Anton-Schneiderstrasse and Bergmannstrasse.

As announced by Mayor Michael Ritsch, the City Council on January 24th approved an expansion of the building site.

Pedestrian zone with five trees

We are talking about the lower part of Rathausstraße, which is at the height of the “vorarlberg museum”. Based on plans by the architects Wimmer-Armellini, the street will be redesigned with a row of five trees, among other things. The yellow colored asphalt that is customary for pedestrian zones is also used and should ultimately – similar to a “bridge to the lake” – be routed over Seestraße L202 to the level crossing at Milchpilz. However, discussions with the state as the road maintenance company are still necessary.

According to the city, the total costs for the expansion of the construction site amount to around 340,000 euros gross, with the majority of the costs relating to the construction of the line under the road.

gap closure

City Councilor Robert Pockenauer describes the conversion of the lower Rathausstraße as the final closing of the gap – both in terms of the surface design and the underground lines for the water and energy supply.
