Canada reacts disturbed by messages to Bombito after fouling Messi

ATLANTA.- The defender of CanadaMoise Bombito, was the victim of multiple messages with racist insults on the networks after a strong entry about Lionel Messi during the 2-0 loss to Argentina in the Copa América on Thursday night.

The Canadian federation spoke out on social media after the match and referred to the messages directed at Bombito without mentioning his name.

“Canada is aware and deeply disturbed by the online racist comments directed at one of our players following tonight’s match,” the federation said in a statement. “We have been in communication with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL regarding this matter. ”.

Bombito published a message on his Instagram stories in which he did not directly refer to what happened, but expressed: “My beautiful Canada. There’s no room for that shit.”

Messi was able to continue in the game after the foul and provided the assist that sealed the victory at the start of the Albiceleste’s title defense in the continental tournament.

The Canadians also complained about the Argentine team’s delay in returning to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium field for the start of the second half.

Media request:

Jesse Marsch, the American coach of Canada, called for a sanction for Argentina in the post-match press conference.

“Argentina should be fined, okay?” Marsch said, addressing the Argentine media Olé and La Nación.

According to Marsch, the Argentines took a while to analyze plays on video and ended up taking the lead four minutes after the restart with Julián Álvarez’s goal.

“They were watching video images and analyzing how they wanted to play against us,” said Marsch about the team led by Lionel Scaloni. “I want the referees to handle the issue. If we had left five minutes late, we would have had a fine and it would be a tremendous problem. We’ll see what they will do with Argentina.”
