A retired couple from Barrio Jardín suffered a violent robbery attempt in the last few hours that, due to a matter of centimeters, did not end in a tragedy.
The event took place yesterday morning in the area of 116 and 80 and was a carbon copy of many of the insecurity situations that retirees experience in the Region, only this time it did not materialize due to the courage that the homeowner to meet the threat with more threats.
As is known, retirees are the favorite target of criminals.
The thugs seem to care little about the vast experience and long journey of their victims. Much less the physical limitations and ailments that older adults usually have.
Quite the contrary. They mercilessly use these weaknesses to their advantage to impose their will and subject older adults to brutal ridicule.
Vision problems, slow movements, low hearing level and fear of ending up “broken” are the tricks up their sleeves that thieves have when they decide to break into the home of a grandparent or A grandma.
All these weaknesses become even more acute if the robbery is committed at night.
In general, as a result of insomnia problems that begin to appear at a certain age, many of the victims find themselves sound asleep under the influence of drugs.
This whole combo leaves them with very little room to maneuver to escape or call for help, and thus they are almost doomed to become victims of these surprise attacks.
But yesterday, this trend was not fulfilled since a retiree decided to face two thieves who broke into his property with the clear objective of stealing.
In this way, he avoided becoming part of the long list of older adults who have experienced the terror of an entrance.
Still, he had to pay a price. In return, he suffered a serious attack that by a few centimeters did not end up costing him his life.
As indicated, the attempted robbery began around 2 in the morning when the victim heard male voices in front of his house in a dream.
While he was wondering if the conversation was taking place on the sidewalk or in his front yard, there was a loud noise.
That noise, corresponding to the breaking of the door of his house, not only woke him up completely but also put him on guard, “ready to face whatever.”
“I suspect the door was kicked open. With the noise I got out of bed and yelled at them ‘Leave or I’ll kill you sons of bitches.’ And the guys listened to me. But first they left me a gift. Perhaps they thought that I had my sights on them and that I was going to shoot them. The point is that they put two shots into the window,” said the victim in dialogue with this newspaper.
In this regard, he stated that he could easily have received one of the shots to his humanity, since they were fired when he was preparing to leave his room.
“I threatened to go out to see if they had already entered but in the end I decided to stay. Luckily that impulse came out of me because I think that now I would not be telling all this, “said the man while showing the holes that were left in the glass of his window, both located one meter above the ground.
After the detonations, shock overwhelmed both him and his wife and they decided to “hunker down” in their room until the police arrived.
“These guys never imagined that we practically slept in the entrance. They must have jumped over the fence. I didn’t get to see them. But, they had no other way to escape. Surely they were kids because it takes a lot of agility to climb and then run away,” the victim conjectured.
This situation takes place just one day after two acts of insecurity that caused a stir in the same sector.
On the one hand, the shooting that occurred in the context of a street robbery perpetrated by motorcycles against a 17-year-old teenager. The event occurred at 116 and 89 and ended with a dead pet after being hit by a stray bullet.
On the other, the night robbery committed by a gang of at least three adolescents in an ice cream parlor located at 11 between 80 and 81.
