The Berlin Volleys are about to win their 13th championship title. In the second final game for the German championship, the defending champion gave the arch-rival VfB Friedrichshafen a lesson in their hall with a 3-0 (25:18, 25:11, 25:16) success. Marek Sotola ended the largely one-sided game with the second match point on Thursday.
The capital club is leading 2-0 in the best-of-five series after victories. In the next game this Saturday in Berlin, the BR Volleys can now secure the championship trophy again.
In front of 1000 spectators in the sold-out Bodensee Airport Arena, the Berliners got off to a perfect start. With the intermediate scores of 6:1, 16:10 and 23:16, they clearly dominated the first set.
The guests took their momentum with them into the second round. The opponent, who at times seemed almost helpless, was almost overwhelmed by the volleys in this phase.
With strong serves, especially from setter Johannes Tille, the guests put pressure on VfB. Defensively, libero Satoshi Tsuiki provided stability with some spectacular saves.
An ace by Anton Brehme brought the 10:2 lead. With another direct service point, Marek Sotola increased to 12:3 a short time later. The lead of the Berliners increased further to 18:5, winning the set was actually never in question.
In the first encounter in the 3-1 win against Friedrichshafen, the BR Volleys buckled a bit in the third set, which they lost 28:30, but this time they kept the pressure on, although there was more resistance on the other side in this section than before, at least at the beginning felt.
