Player exchange possible?

The well-known Argentinian journalist César Luis Merlo outlines such a transfer: A transfer fee of 100 million euros plus a player from the Chelsea squad, who moves to Lisbon in return, should enable Fernández’s transfer from the Blues’ point of view.

In this case, the decision would lie with the Portuguese, should Chelsea pull the release clause, they would be powerless. Fernández is tied to Benfica until 2027. The 22-year-old is no longer putting any pressure on himself. However, Fernández has not yet given up hope of a big jump in salary in London.
