Bregenz(BRK) – On February 7th, the city council decided to invest a good one million euros in maintenance and renovation work as well as modernization in the area of Bregenz’s compulsory schools.

This was announced by Mayor Michael Ritsch, who said: “The compulsory school sector is enormously important for every city or community as a school provider. This is about nothing less than giving the citizens of tomorrow the best possible start to their education. Spending money on elementary and secondary schools is in any case a justified and necessary investment in the future of society.”

The largest single investment is in the Rieden school, where the 60-year-old physics classroom is being completely renovated. Together with smaller adaptations in the music room and in the playground, 305,000 euros have to be spent on this. 200,000 euros will be spent on 255 additional modules of the photovoltaic system, so that the school, together with the system parts decided on last year, will soon be over 1,200 m2 Collector surfaces with a total output of 202 kWp. In addition, maintenance measures are to be carried out in the adjacent sports hall for 230,000 euros, ranging from replacing the shading to replacing the control technology.

City councilor Eveline Miessgang commented on the work at the Rieden school: “Although the Rieden school was modernized between 2017 and 2020, the physics room, for example, was not touched at the time because it was not needed due to the shortage of teachers. I am very happy that now that physics and chemistry can be taught again, we are also updating the premises. This means that the hall can also be used as an alternative room in the future.”

Various works for 151,000 euros are also planned in the VS city. These include above all safety-related improvements in the stairwell and some doors, new lighting fixtures and external blinds, etc. Measures are also being taken in the Weidach school for 50,000 euros in the interior and exterior. Among other things, the digitization including WLAN in the VS Fluh costs 46,000 euros, and the city spends 28,000 euros on the replacement of blinds and the renovation of the sports field in the VS Augasse.
