A young Cuban woman, Karla Martín, shared a video on TikTok in which she talked about some things that seemed impossible to her in Cuba and that she now sees as normal in the United States.

Karla (@karlybeautyservices on the network) first referred to the fact of driving a car, pointing out that on the island she didn’t even ride a bicycle because she would fall.

“I got to the point where I thought, in my mind, that maybe I didn’t have the ability to drive anything at all… I never even thought I would have to drive a car. In Cuba, most people who have cars are men and the women who drive had, I don’t know, the superpower of balance. Then I came to the United States and I realized that driving was for everyone,” she confessed in that regard.

“Today I already have my second car because I broke the first one learning to drive and in fact today I have even driven a boat,” he said.

Another thing she mentioned was starting your own business. “I know that only regular Cubans, men and women, will be able to understand this… for me, that wasn’t something I couldn’t do because starting your own business was something, a talent you were born with… In Cuba, starting a business or creating a company is only reserved for super-powerful people with superpowers. I came here and realized that starting a business was especially reserved for people who had the will to do it.”

She also talked about what it means to be able to choose what she eats: “If you had asked me three years ago I would have told you that I never went hungry in Cuba, but over the years I have realized that maybe in order for me to never lack a plate of food, maybe someone else had to stop eating… In Cuba, eating whatever you want, even with money, was something unreal for me. I came here and realized that people can choose what they want to eat, healthy or unhealthy for their health. Something as simple as that blew my mind,” she said.

The comments were not long in coming: “I have been in this beautiful country for years and I have never driven. And I ask God to give me strength to get rid of my fear of driving”; “That is happening to me, I feel like I am putting obstacles in my own way to learn to drive, I think I am not capable”; “Just as you say, believe me, the same thing happened to me”; “I am on my third car and I learned at 49,” they told her.
