Vladimír Darida has explained the reasons behind his move to Greece. The 32-year-old says to the ‘Bild’ about his January transfer to Aris Saloniki: “I want to play football again. I wanted to go abroad and experience another culture. In Greece, the sea is not far, Thessaloniki is a great city and Aris is a great club. My goal is to play here in Europe and win a national title.” At Hertha BSC, the veteran was only a substitute this season (28 minutes).

According to the report, Darida also had offers from the USA, Turkey and his native Czech Republic. Now, after seven and a half years in Berlin, Darida is starting a new chapter in Greece: “I’m really looking forward to this new, exciting task at Aris Saloniki. Hertha and the great fans will of course always remain in my heart, as will Berlin, of course. That is also the city where my son was born.” The midfielder played a total of 190 competitive games for the Old Lady and was directly involved in 45 goals.
