Although much loved by Argentines, this food has its origins in the city of Milan, Italy where it is known as cotoletta. When it arrived in our country at the hands of immigrants, it changed until it became the dish we know and eat today. But the one that is very Argentine is the famous “Milanese a la Neapolitan” we will tell you about its origin.

In the 50’s there was an inn near Luna Parck in Buenos Aires, its owner, José Napoli cooked a large batch of Milanese, the intention was for them to be the classic ones but unexpectedly most of them were burned. What did he do before these burned milanesas? He could not deliver them like this to his diners, so he covered the accident with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, thus creating, from an unexpected accident, the classic Neapolitan.

What is “the truth of the Milanese”?
This saying is well known and was used on many occasions, although few know where it comes from. The historian, journalist and writer Daniel Balmaceda explained: “The breading of the Milanese preserves the meat. When you eat milanesas, you don’t really know what’s inside. That happened to a lot of people in 1920, 1930. They said: What did they put us in here? Only when one opened and cut, could he see. That was the real Milanese”.
