After a hotfix on January 24th, Bungie took Destiny 2 offline. Players couldn’t get into the game for many hours, but there was a good reason.
Bungie clarifies the course of the problem in great detail
The developer said they wanted to “investigate an ongoing issue that is causing certain triumphs, seals, and catalysts to lose player progress.”

in one statement Bungie explains “that the issue was caused by moving some currently non-closable EDZ and Nessus Triumphs from Forsaken to the Archived Triumphs section.”
“To make this change, we used a tool that can move a player’s status from one place to another in the player’s account. This tool is very powerful, but requires careful and careful handling,” Bungie continues.
“Due to a configuration error, we accidentally re-ran an older migration process that was used for the Beyond Light version. The result was that we copied old pre-Beyond Light data into the current configuration, causing certain aspects of player progression have since been undone.”

The solution required a small sacrifice
After the studio discovered this was causing the loss of player data, Bungie took the game offline to reset the database and further investigate the issue. On January 25, the developer released the 6.3.0.5 patch. implemented, which removes the problem.
“As a result of this correction, all player accounts had to be reset as of 8:20 AM PST on January 24th. This means that any progress made between 8:20 AM and 11 AM was lost and all purchases were refunded.” In German time, this corresponds to 5:20 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In the meantime, the problem has been banned and you can go about your activities in Destiny 2 with peace of mind until Lightfall appears on February 28th.
