For the sixth consecutive year, the Apptopia company shares its ranking of the most downloaded mobile applications and games in the world. Discover the leaders of its last twelve months on iOS and Android.
Each year, the specialized analysis firm Apptopia takes stock of the games and applications that have recorded the most downloads over a calendar year. The various “top 10” give us precise information on the most popular apps by category.
App Store Big Winners
To establish this ranking, Apptopia counted the number of downloads between January 1, 2022 and December 20, 2022, on iOS and Android. The Chinese market is an exception taking into account only the data on iOS.
For a download to be counted, it must be made by a unique user. This means that an application uninstalled and then reinstalled will not be included in the calculation. Also, if someone uses the same login credentials on a new smartphone, downloads of the same apps will not be counted twice.
Truce of suspense, the most downloaded application in the world in 2022 is TikTok with 672 million new downloads. Nothing original insofar as it is the third consecutive year that the application of Bytedance is first in the ranking. Another application from the company climbed to 4th place in the ranking: CapCut. It owes its 357 million downloads to the fact that it is used to make video montages which are then published… on TikTok.
The other big winner in this world ranking is the company Meta, which manages to place three of its applications in the top 10: Instagram (2nd with 548 million), WhatsApp (3rd with 424 million) and Facebook (8th with 298 million) . Three competing applications stand out: Snapchat (5th with 330 million), Telegram (6th with 310 million) and Spotify (10th with 238 million). The most downloaded games of 2022
No offense to hardcore gamers, players are also on mobile. Apptopia knows this and offers the world ranking of the 10 most downloaded mobile games of 2022. In first position, we find the venerable Subway Surfers, with 51.4 million downloads. Not bad for a game that celebrated its 10th anniversary. Just behind, we find Stumble Guys, a battle royale to play with friends, which recorded 254 million downloads in 2022. Followed by the phenomenon game Roblox, Candy Crush Saga and Race Master 3D.
Apptopia offers other top 10s such as the most popular shopping apps in the world in 2022. SHEIN comes first, followed closely by Meesho and Shoppe. Amazon is “only” fourth in the ranking. We notice the logical absence of Wish, for the first time since this classification exists.
