Dominican baseball player Wander Franco is accused of being guilty in his country

SANTO DOMINGO (AP) — Dominican prosecutors filed a formal and final charge against the baseball player Dominican Wander Franco in the case of the alleged sexual abuse to a 14-year-old teenager.

“The prosecution filed the charges on Monday,” Attorney General’s spokeswoman Nairobi Viloria told The Associated Press on Tuesday, but said she could not immediately provide details of the charges.

With the formal accusation filed within the time limits established by Dominican law, Franco, who has been free on bail since January, moves on to a new stage, in which the possibility of the case being dismissed due to lack of accusation is ruled out.

The indictment also includes the girl’s mother, who prosecutors have said received thousands of dollars from Franco to enable the relationship.

The AP has decided not to reveal the woman’s name in order to protect her daughter’s privacy.

On Friday, Franco completed six months of bail, the deadline for prosecutors to present their conclusions.
