Dominican Cabrera leads the Marlins to victory over the Braves

ATLANTA.- Dominican Edward Cabrera struck out eight in five impressive innings and Jonah Bride hit a three-run homer to give the Miami Marlins They will defeat the Atlanta Braves with a score of 7-0, splitting the wins in the four-game series.

Cabrera (2-3) allowed just three hits and two walks. It was the first of 11 starts this season in which he was scoreless. Three relievers completed the six-hit effort.

Star left-hander Max Fried (7-6) had a disappointing return from the injured list for the Braves. He allowed five runs and four hits in 3 1/3 innings, walking a season-high five. He also struck out six.

Bride’s homer, his third of the season and second of the series, led to a six-run fourth inning for the Marlins. Xavier Edwards and Cristian Pache each added an RBI. Luke Jackson replaced Fried and allowed Bride’s homer to left field, where the Marlins’ bullpen was located.

For the fish, Dominicans Pache went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, Otto Lopez went 1-for-4 with one run scored. Venezuelan Ali Sanchez went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

For the Braves, Cuban Jorge Soler went 1-for-3 and Dominican Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4.

Skenes leaves without a decision

A three-run homer by Joc Pederson in the seventh inning lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-5 victory Sunday, while Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Paul Skenes left with a no-decision after being shut out until the sixth inning.

Pederson lined a two-out drive to left-center off Colin Holderman (3-4) to turn a 4-2 deficit into a one-run lead. Pederson’s 17th homer of the season came after Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll walked.

Ketel Marte added a solo homer, his 27th, in the ninth off Jake Woodford to give the Diamondbacks an insurance run. Arizona won its sixth straight series and for the ninth time in 11 games.

Skenes allowed two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings against the National League’s top-scoring team, striking out four and walking three.
