The silent killer strikes again! On this evening of January 9, 2023, two families, one of 9 people residing in Bou Saâda (wilaya of M’Sila) and another for 6 people living in Aïn Oulmene (wilaya of Sétif), died following a carbon monoxide poisoning.

In recent days, the cold has returned to Algeria, especially in the high plateau region. Unfortunately, this climate change has not been without consequences. Because indeed, despite multiple awareness campaigns, carbon monoxide, this silent killer, continues to claim many victims.

Carbon monoxide poisoning: a very heavy toll for the day of January 9

The first drama took place in the Bou Saâda commune of the wilaya of M’Sila (248 from Algiers). Yesterday, Monday January 9, at 9:32 p.m., the Civil Protection announced the death of 9 people, members of the same family, by carbon monoxide poisoning. They are the father, the mother, their 5 children and 2 relatives of the husband who have come to spend the night at his house. According to different sources, the age of the victims varied between 4 years and 50 years. In addition, the father and his family would come from the commune of Ghassoul (wilyaya of El Bayadh).

Shortly after, at 10:32 p.m. precisely, the Civil Protection services announced, via a press release on their official Facebook page, that carbon monoxide had just decimated a family of 6 in the town of Aïn Oulmene, in the wilaya of Sétif (252 km from Algiers). The Civil Protection press release did not give further details.

The macabre assessment of the gas poisonings of this day of January 9 is not limited to these two tragedies. Thus, 2 other people died of carbon monoxide poisoning in the wilaya of Mostaganem. The intervention of the firefighters took place at 7:10 p.m. Moreover, the elements of the civil protection were able to rescue, during the same day, 15 people victims of poisoning with city gas and carbon monoxide in the wilaya of Bordj Bou Arréridj.
