Imagine this situation: You are a pitcher for the Cubs in MLB, you face one of the most difficult teams (Dodgers), until the eighth inning you throw a perfect game… buteeeeero spoils in the most unlikely way, that happened to Drew Smyly.

The situation that we have just described could be taken from a mind worthy of making the best Hollywood stories like Quentin Tarantino or James Cameron.

But it’s more than real and it happened this January 21, while Drew Smyly was the pitcher in the series that faced the Cubs and Dodgers at Wringley Field.

Drew Smyly he is the fourth pitcher in the rotation of the Cubs and his job was to stand up for the team, because In the series opener, the Dodgers beat them 6-2 in Chicago.

So, the Chicago pitcher focused on playing a perfect game and that’s how things happened, because for 75% of the match, he threw a true perfect game.

Drew Smyly, not so smiling when a perfect game went through his hands

What is a perfect game in MLB? It’s basically when one or more pitchers have nine innings with no batter reaching first base.

Also, no opposing player has to reach base for hitting batter, walk, third strike not caughtreceiver interference or fielder errors.

If any of these things happen during a game, can go from perfect to no-hitters and runsin which you can have rivals at first base for throwing four balls or hitting the batter.

With that said, let’s go back to Drew Smyly, who over eight innings he pitched a perfect game against the Dodgers and he only needed six more outs to go down in history.

Also, it would have been the first perfect game in Cubs history, but everything ended horribly and with a clash between colleagueswhich gave more laughter than sorrow for the perfect game.

David Peralta had a turn at bat, he connected very weakly, which was slow to third base. In any other situation, it would have been grabbed so easily, almost routine for any MLB player.

But, with a perfect game on the conversation, nervousness won over Drew Smyly and Yan Gomes (Cubs catcher) that they did not speak and both went for the ball… they collided achieving a period blooper.

Neither caught the ball for the out, but they also couldn’t throw it to first base to strike out Peraltathus ending with a perfect game and Drew Smyly’s smile.
