With the counting progressing very slowly, the governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, partially prevails tonight in the provincial elections and would achieve re-election.

Three hours after the polls closed, 8.39% of the polling stations had just been counted (80 of 954).

According to this tiny percentage, the president and candidate of the Frente de Todos reaped 47.79% and surpassed the candidate of Together for Change, Felipe Álvarez, who obtained 34.33%.

Meanwhile, La Libertad Avanza, whose candidate was Martín Menem -nephew of former president Carlos Saúl Menem-, was in third place, with 16.07%.

In addition to electing the next provincial president and his vice president, in these general elections (in La Rioja there is no PASO) provincial deputies are defined in 11 departments; mayors and vice mayors and councilors in all departments.

This Sunday, the people of La Rioja also voted for 36 conventional constituents to carry out the reform of their provincial Constitution: in this category, the Frente de Todos achieved 58.60%, while Together for Change reaped 37.49%.
