MIAMI — Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accused the Democratic administration of former President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris of having relaxed sanctions against the Nicolás Maduro regime in exchange for the promise of free elections, an agreement that the Chavista ruler broke, which would have allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief and even steal the elections in Venezuela, a situation that keeps the country in a serious crisis.
For Trump, that agreement was “one of the worst deals ever made by the Biden administration.” He added that the vice president and virtual presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris, helped “lead the charge for the release” of the nephews of Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, who were serving sentences in the United States for drug trafficking, in a case known as the “narco-nephews.”
The Democratic administration, in “direct” negotiations with the Chavista regime, released Franqui Flores and Efraín Antonio Campo Flores, known as the “narco-nephews” who had been sentenced to 18 years in prison in the United States, of which they served only seven, thanks to the White House agreement. In exchange, five Americans, former executives of the oil company Citgo, who were arrested in November 2017, were released. Citgo is a subsidiary of the state-owned PDVSA. Matthew Heath, a former Tennessee Marine arrested in 2020 in Venezuela, was also released.
Trump also placed direct blame on Harris for the release of the drug traffickers. “Maduro’s top money launderer and his two convicted drug-dealing nephews (were released) in exchange for an obviously false promise of freedom, justice, and elections for the people of Venezuela,” he added. He made one of the WORST OFFERS EVER!
Biden also eased oil sanctions on Maduro in exchange for the “promise” of free elections. The honeymoon did not last long, ending when the dictatorship disqualified opposition leader María Corina Machado and other members.
“Look at what is happening now: Maduro sold his oil, met with his nephews who are money launderers and drug traffickers, and the Venezuelan people got nothing,” the presidential candidate emphasized.
“Venezuela is destroyed and its wonderful people are bankrupt and dying! Much of their blood is on the hands of dangerously liberal and failed American politicians like Kamala Harris and corrupt Joe Biden,” the Republican said.
Republican Senator Marco Rubio has said that Joe Biden’s policies towards the Maduro regime have only encouraged “the narco-dictator with his policy of appeasement.”
The Democratic administration released Alex Saab, the front man for dictator Nicolás Maduro, arrested in 2020 on a money laundering warrant. Biden also agreed to Maduro’s blackmail policy, securing the release of Saab for Americans detained by the Chavista regime.
