Esteban Pavez assumes one of the biggest responsibilities of his career by becoming the new captain of Colo Colo. The midfielder wants to be up to the task and seeks to apply the teachings left by former references with whom he was able to share such as Esteban Paredes, Luis Mena, Gonzalo Fierro or Jaime Valdés.

“I arrived in Colo Colo at the age of 18, already grown up. I never thought I would be a captain of this great institution. Over time I got to know many captains, seeing very good examples and some not very good ones., and I always stayed with the best. I try to get the best out of myself, to do as much as I can, to always give the best to my teammates and the staff. That is very important and I learned it from a captain who marked me a lot, who was Esteban Paredes.”, he confessed in dialogue with La Tercera.

Huesi takes the lead backed by a great tour that includes foreign clubs and steps through the Chilean team. “Being the captain of the largest institution in the country is a great responsibility.. It takes me to a point where I’m pretty mature. I have had experiences in many dressing rooms. I always try to get involved in what I can, that my teammates are well. I think a lot about them first and then about me, ”he added.

fierce mea culpa

The 32-year-old midfielder made a strong self-criticism for some behaviors in the past that cost him expulsions and harmed the team. “They have always talked about my temperament, very strong on the pitch. Outside, I think I am totally the opposite. People who know me know it. I am too passive, I rarely get angry, but on the pitch I transform,” she began, recalling.

“I have always said: There are things I did that make me ashamed, because I never did them, not even in the neighborhood. Suddenly I was getting yellow cards, things that got out of control, but you learn over time. Today I am in a very serene moment, quite mature. And it helps me a lot, too, the time that I was away and the one that led here, ”she added.

However, there is an episode that he regrets the most and he lived it in a classic with Universidad Católica. “Lor what happened to Marco Medel, that I spit on him, I had never done it and I regret it. I don’t know why I did it. I knew Marco. It was clearly something of the moment, I don’t know how to explain it well, but they are things that make one feel ashamed. And other kinds of things, like getting angry about a play or raising my arms a lot. Suddenly I still do it, but without intention, ”she closed.
