The long wait is almost over: Rockfish Games has one Release date for Everspace 2 announcedwhen the space action game should finally be finished. On April 6, 2023 the German hope will reach version number 1.0 and be published as a finished game for PC. The implementations for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will take a little longer, they are expected to appear in summer 2023. (Originally, the game was also supposed to be released for PS4 and Xbox One, but these plans have since been scrapped.) The PC version, on the other hand, is well known to us, after all, Everspace 2 was allowed to mature in Early Access for almost 27 months. During this time, the developers have delivered six major content updates and improved and reworked many core mechanics.

According to Rockfish, the Early Access phase was already very successful, and because the game also appeared in PC Game Pass, the developers were able to use a larger budget. For this reason, Everspace 2 is now even larger than originally planned and should be excellently polished when it is released. The finished game will also receive a completely German voice output.

Since the game has grown significantly with its budget, the price will be available from February 20th from 38.99 euros to 49.99 euros. A free content update will also be available in the second half of the year. And that’s not the end of it: the developers want to release an extensive (paid) extension in mid-2024, and work on the add-on has already begun.

That’s why Everspace 2 is so good (even now).

Everspace 2 completely leaves the rogue-lite concept of its predecessor behind. This time you can expect a huge single-player adventure that wants to score with a dense story, uncomplicated action, great graphics, fun exploration and a motivating loot spiral. According to the developer, you will need about 30 hours for the main story alone, if you really want to do everything, you should plan more like 90 hours.

Although Everspace 2 is repeatedly referred to as an open-world game, you shouldn’t expect a coherent sandbox like in Freelancer, for example. The “game world” consists of more than 100 handcrafted zones and locations, spread over six star systems, between which you can jump back and forth freely. Especially cool: You can even land on some planets! In addition, there is much more to discover in Everspace 2 than in many other space shooters, the developers have even installed real puzzles in many places – so there is more to do than just shoot down opponents. You can see how well it plays in our hands-on test of the Early Access version.
