The communist deputy from the North Fabien Roussel has made it known that he does not wish to leave Nupes, a few days after a tense meeting between the tenors of the New Popular Ecologist and Social Union (Nupes) on Tuesday evening.
The leader of the communist party Fabien Roussel calls for the Nupes “to accept the choices of each political force” which compose it and assures that it has no intention of leaving the alliance, he explained on Saturday evening to the AFP.
While a stormy meeting was held on Tuesday between the leaders of Nupes, Fabien Roussel wanted to rectify the remarks that LFI attributed to him, accusing him of having compared the coalition to a ball and chain, and affirmed that he had no intention of leaving Nupes.
“Expanding the Alliance”
“I actually said that Nupes is for me as much a prospect of hope, because we have built a lot together, but it is also a burden if it pulls us down, if it locks us into unavoidable political constructions. If you can’t say what you think, it’s a ball, a straightjacket, a straitjacket,” he said.
“And when Manuel Bompard said to me: ‘we understood that you want to leave Nupes’, I said ‘no!'”, he pleaded, assuring that he wanted on the contrary to “expand” the covenant.
For him, before talking about European or presidential elections, Nupes must focus first “on the historic social movement against pensions”.
“Go look beyond the Nupes”
He asks “that we bring together the 250 parliamentarians who signed the shared initiative referendum, that we go look beyond the Nupes and that we take initiatives together” to continue the social battle.
The PCF also supported the idea of a meeting between these parliamentarians and the inter-union, Saturday during the first national council of the party since the re-election at its head of Fabien Roussel.
“Political forces, unions, associations, elected officials” could prepare together “a national citizen vote, a popular referendum”, indicates the PCF in a press release.
