The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified the shooter who tried to assassinate Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.
“The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvaniaas the subject involved in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the agency said in a statement.
Crooks lived in Bethel Park Township, about 35 miles south of the town of Butler, where the Republican leader’s rally was being held. He graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022.

The November presidential election would have been the first in which he could have voted.
Separately, Federal Election Commission records show that in January 2021 he donated $15 to a Democrat-aligned political action committee called the Progressive Turnout Project.
Crooks shot Trump from the roof of a nearby buildingoutside the rally’s security perimeter. He was killed by Secret Service agents on the scene after the shooting.
Upon examining his body, FBI agents discovered that He was not carrying any identification, so they had to “analyze his DNA and obtain biometric confirmation”“Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said at a news conference.
CNN reached out to Matthew Crooks, the gunman’s father, on Saturday night, who would only say that he was trying to figure out “what the hell is going on” but that he would “wait until he talks to the police” before saying anything about his son.
Hours after the attack in which Donald Trump was injuredthe former president flew back to Newark, New Jersey.
He earlier thanked the U.S. Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their quick response, and offered his condolences to the family of the person who was killed.
