Six people were injured after a fire broke out in a unit of a chemical plant of the Shell oil company in Deer Parkin the state of Texas, said five sources with knowledge of the complex’s operations.
The extent of the victim injuries until 22:00 GMT on Friday.
A large plume of smoke rose from the fire at the olefins unit located near Highway 225 in the suburb of Deer Park, in houstonthe sources said.
A Shell Plc spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
In a notice posted on a website for nearby residents, Shell He said there was a fire at the chemical plant.
All personnel at the plant were accounted for at the time the fire broke out at 4:00 p.m. local time.
Operations at a refinery of the Mexican oil company Pemex which is located next to the Shell chemical complex continued despite the fire, said sources linked to the company.
Pemex issued a statement saying that the fire did not occur in one of its units and that its emergency response team was helping to fight the flames.
