Google acquired Fitbit some time ago, and in September this year, the company announced that starting in 2023, it would simplify signing up and switch from Fitbit to Google accounts. Better security and new services should be the advantage. In addition, only one registration system is required.

We’ve turned off the ability to log into your account on fitbit.com with your Google credentials. For this we will soon start with an improved experience.

To be prepared for this action, make sure you know the email address and password used for Fitbit. If you don’t remember your password, click Forgot your password.

For more information about your Fitbit account, including how to find and change your email address, visit our help article.

In order to make this transition as clean as possible, one will use the Google sign-in for now off and users should remember their Fitbit account with the respective login data. Apparently a translation error happened at Fitbit, because while “we are removing” is used in English (so it hasn’t happened yet), in German one already speaks of “switched off”. But that’s not the case, because signing in with Google is still there.

There is no fixed date for this shutdown yet. Until the Google account is done, users will still have to remember their Fitbit account until 2025. All important information about the transition can be found on a separate help page.
